Q: 2 years ago, with your solo album “Heartbreaker” as your representative, you said that : “You’re not a idol, but a symbol.” Now looking at Big Bang, it looks like you’re trying to break the “Idol Image”.
G-Dragon: The views people had for us within this 2 years and 3 months (Big Bang’s hiatus period) had changed. During this period, I think that “Idols” is now a term used for younger idols. We’re all getting older, it is kind of embarrassing still being called as “Idols”, maybe it’s time to be called as “Musicians” instead.
Q. Your first album “Heartbreaker” created alot of controversies, what do you have to say about that?
G-Dragon: One day, when I was driving, I played it all again one more time, I felt guilty. (laughs) I was really confident at that point, albums to me are like my diary, when I’m 60/70 years old, I can always look back and hear it, read the lyrics and think back about who did I love, what was I thinking about at that point. After that, I find that my diary used as an idea for my solo album, is too impulsive (laughs). If I wasn’t that impulsive at that point, I could have done better. I’m now currently preparing for my next solo album, if the production is fast, it’ll be released by next year.

I mean seeing how successful he was, i always expected a second solo from him, just not this fast!! :D With YG a date is never sure as he can delay it at the very last minute but i’m happy to hear he’s at least working on it! maybe that’s what Diplo is helping with? :D

I think his next solo album will be far better then Heartbreaker (or at least I hope so) I liked Heartbreaker a lot and adamantly stood by him and his music during the controversies it faced, but after I went back and listened to the whole thing again recently, I realized how auto-tuned the whole thing was and it really doesn’t stand the test of time that he is talking about above. I think and hope for his next album he will keep that in mind, since I have heard him say that they want to make music that last forever like the Rolling Stones or other classic groups. I just hope he doesn’t rush himself, so that he puts out something he is truly happy with.
I will say that the year Heartbreaker came out was the year of the auto-tune, so he really was just keeping up with trends, but if we know anything about GD and BB they are here to break trends and make new ones so I hope he does that.

considering that there are plans to release another big bang album next year and they also have concerts lined up, plans for releasing his solo album have changed since then.

tbh what he says about heartbreaker is a little bit worrying. personally i think his solo album is the best thing he has produced thus far, and to say that it was impulsive and that ‘he could have done better’ belies its incredible success musically. he pushed his potential at that time, and since then i’ve been fairly unimpressed with the kind of stuff he has been producing (esp in regard to big bang’s newest songs). if that’s the direction gd is heading in, i’m a little wary. i liked a few things from the gd&top album – probably his best work in a while – but overall it felt too self-indulgent. all that being said i’m still pissing-in-my-pants excited to get another potentially brilliant solo album from him. :D
